Lasik: The CarlinVision Advantage
There are several options when choosing where to have Lasik; private practices, corporate practices, “discount” centers, etc. Here is why we believe you should have your procedure performed by Dr. Richard Carlin at CarlinVision.
Experience: Dr. Richard Carlin has been performing Lasik since its approval in 1997. He has personally performed more than 10,000 procedures.
Technology: We use the most current technology for all our patients, not just those who pay extra. Customized individual procedures using the iDesign Refractive system and Femtosecond blade-free laser flaps allow for the safest and most accurate results available anywhere.
Guarantee: While no one can guarantee results with any medical procedure, we offer all patients free enhancements for life, no matter what prescription they have.
Comprehensive care: Outside of Lasik, we offer all refractive procedures such as photorefractive keratectomy, refractive lens exchange, EVO implantable contact lenses, etc. This way we can help our patients choose the best procedure for their individual needs.
Compassionate individual care: Our practice has been providing “Advanced Eye Care with a Home-town touch” for over 45 years. As the largest eye care practice in Gwinnet County, and not being part of a chain or corporate owned, we focus solely on what is best for each patient. Dr. Carlin personally performs your evaluation, measurements, procedure and post-op care and does not rely on less experienced or “outside” providers. The Lasik experience at CarlinVision is smooth, easy, and even “enjoyable”. We make every experience unique and tailored to each individual patient.
Cataract Symptoms
Light entering the eye passes through the lens which focuses it onto the retina at the back of the eye. As we age, and perhaps due to disease or medication, the lens becomes cloudy which is called a cataract. There are a variety of symptoms that occur:
Cloudy or dim vision: Objects just do not seem to be clear as they used to be.
Difficulty driving at night: More glare and haloes from headlights or streetlights.
Need for brighter lights: Lights in the house are not bright enough; seems darker outside at night.
Changes in color vision: Colors are no longer as vibrant; everything looks “sepia” toned.
Double vision in only one eye: With one eye covered, the double vision does not go away.
Frequent changes in eye glasses: Your prescription changes every time you go to the eye doctor.
If these symptoms bother you, let us know. We can help!
Under-Eye Bags: Home Remedies
While surgically removing the bags (lower lid blepharoplasty) is obviously the best option, there are some home remedies you can use to enhance your appearance:
- Cool compresses
- Getting enough sleep
- Elevating your head while you sleep
- Avoid fluids before bed and decrease salt intake
- Quite smoking
- Treat allergies
- Avoid eye rubbing
Pros and Cons of Polarized Lenses
Polarized lenses block horizontal light rays from entering the eye. They are especially helpful when boating, fishing, golfing and skiing because the light reflected off horizontal surfaces causing glare is blocked. While objects appear a bit darker, they are clearer and crisper.
Polarized lenses even hinder vision when driving at night, seeing ice on roads, and looking at car dashboard controls or cell phones. They also do not block UV rays.
The best advice is to discuss your lifestyle needs with our Opticians before making your decision. They can guide you in the right direction.
How to Instill Eye Drops
Wash your hands. Shake the bottle vigorously. Remove the cap but do not touch the dropper tip.
- Lay down or tilt your head back as far as possible. Hold the bottle with your thumb and first two fingers. Rest your hand on your nose or cheek for stability. Pull down the lower lid with your other hand. Squeeze the drop into the eye.
- Close the eye. Squeeze the drop into the corner of the eye. Open the eye and the drop will roll in.
- Have a family member or friend help you.
Your eye holds about a half of a drop, so some will always leak out. If you feel something hit the eye, you did it!
If all else fails, let us know as there are other options.
Morning Eye Gunk?
When awake, tears flush out normal mucous and debris from the eyes. Because we do not blink while asleep, this discharge collects in the corners of the eyes causing residue upon awakening.
To remove normal discharge, use a warm washcloth instead of your unwashed, potentially dirty hands. Rubbing your eyes should be avoided!
Excess discharge, eyelids sticking together, blurred vision, light sensitivity, redness or pain are not normal and should be checked by us.
